  1. In my opinion, America is defined by many things like patriotism among citizens, persistence in difficult times, and freedom. America is unlike any other country in that their citizens benefit from freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition. Also, Americans are very supportive of each other and unite to get through difficult times, as demonstrated by the 9/11 tragedy when the only way out of such a terrible act was to pick each other up and continue with life.

  2. America is defined by its government and its social status as one of the leading nations of the world. Because we are a republic, each individual has a certain amount of say or power which also allows the people to choose their leaders. Last, because a fair amount of power is given to the people, so are many freedoms which is what divides us from many other nations.

  3. I believe that freedom and diversity truly define America. There is no other place in the entire world where people have the freedoms which we have in America, such as freedom of speech and religion. Also, when I think of modern day America, I think about the large collection of different races and ethnicities which all share equality in today's society.

  4. It's my opinion that what truly defines America as a nation is our system of democracy and also how we have free speech. Most other countries don't allow the same freedoms.

  5. In my opinion America defines the country of opportunities. However this does not come by itself, it involves freedom and trust to the people of America. Which clearly this country has because it has been able to successful in the past.

  7. I believe that America is defined by the American Idea. This is because the American idea is known for allowing every American citizen equality and allows everyone to make their own decisions. America is know for its freedom and how it excepts everyone.

  8. America represents freedom, and trusts. People who come from another country to America, they come for freedom. In addition, people have trusts in the U.S government, in this country, they have more fair treatments than they were in the countries where they come from.

  9. America is defined by its history, people, and tourism. When I think about America, Time Square in New York, Hollywood, and the NYSE come to my mind. America's history has made this great nation what it is today, by giving its people "certain unalienable rights, [such as] Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."

  10. America was founded on freedom and power to the individual. Today The united States is one of the most free and prospering countries in the whole nation. Although America can be defined, for the most part, by it's honesty, opportunity, and cooperation to fulfill the "American Ideal" it still has many faults. There is still immense poverty here and a large gap in the economical scale, leaving a very small middle-class. So although it is known to be a place of equal opportunity, that it is not entirely true. Overall I am proud to be an American, where there is opportunity and hope. Compared the tyranny and dictatorships of other countries life is here is very easy, but America still doesn't live up to how it should and could be.

  11. I truly believe that American is defined by its amount of freedoms and liberties. As Americans we pride ourselves on being entitled to certain rights such as freedom of speech or freedom of press. These liberties are what we founded this country on and makes us proud to be Americans.

  12. I believe that the land of new opportunity and freedom is what truly defines America because the America provides all kinds of opportunity for all social classes without being biased. Many people from different countries come to America and find the America a much better place to live in because the government system is more for the people and provides more opportunity for people to be successful than those of their countries. In addition, many people immigrate to our country because they trust in our country and they know that all people are equal in our country so that is why I believe the America defines the land of opportunity and freedom.

  13. America is a country that ensures that its government always has the consent of the governed. The people of America are the backbone of America, and without their trust, the government cannot preform their necessary operations. America is a country that, unlike many other countries, was founded on the idea that (within reason) people would trust the government to act with their best interests at heart.

  14. What seems to be what truly defines America is the stubborn individualism and continuous search for the definition of true freedom that the lives of American citizens have continuously revolved around. As John Updike had said, "Empowerment of the individual" had been what the U.S. decided was the ultimate goal, and even "after a century and a half of travail and misadventure among human societies, there is no better idea left standing." However, it is America's history of optimism, hope, and exploring through its diverse landscape that made this country into more than just a large competition and bowl of individuals. In order to achieve a rich, beneficial tomorrow for future generations, Americans continuously search for the definition of freedom by pushing through various policies, administrations, and wars.
Because each American is an individual and because freedom means something different to each person, we continue to struggle to define it as we adapt to a changing world of environmental and political changes. That is why even now the U.S. continues to work out flaws in its system. But I believe that the flaws will eventually lead to progress as "the American idea... creat[es] not a static paradise, but a productively competitive section of Earth's humanity."

  15. America is defined not only by its diverse population, but the unity which exists within its people. No other country can boast that its members hail from nearly every corner of the world, yet proudly call themselves Americans. Many other cultures and customs have come to America and have been embraced by society.

  16. In my mind, American can not be defined in one word, America has a rich history filled with perseverance, strength, and need to grow and develop. When faced with adversity, Americans always band together and find a way to become a network of support for a cause, people in need, and during times of hardship, for one another. When I think of America, I think about this great nations insatiable want to be the best it can be, and ability to “bounce back” when difficult times present themselves.

  17. Sometimes bigger really is better, and that's what America is as we have one of the biggest and definitely the strongest and most influential countries in the world. Being the strongest has its benefits but also has hurt our nation as we have been a target of some other jealous countries. But I think America has the X factor. There are no limitations here and no roof above us for what is possible. If someone has an idea they can follow that idea without some communist government stopping them.
